Wasit Criminal Court sentenced on Sunday, two men to two years rigorous imprisonment for the crime of artefacts smuggling.
The Supreme Judicial Council said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "both of the accused were seized in possession of (175) artefacts."
“Sentencing them is based on the provisions of Article 44 / the first part of the Antiquities and Heritage Law No. 55 of 2002 and in terms of articles 47, 48 and 49 of the Penal Code," the statement said.
