Newcastle United, the English Premier League club, announced today, Saturday, that it had received official confirmation from the Italian authorities that its Italian player, Sandro Tonali, had been suspended due to violating betting rules in his country.
Newcastle said: “Sandro will have the right to return to participating in official football matches starting on Tuesday, August 28, 2024.”
The Italian Football Federation punished Tonali with an 18-month ban last Thursday and said that eight of them would be replaced with treatment courses for gambling addiction after reaching a settlement with the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office.
