Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani stressed today, Saturday, the necessity of opening safe corridors to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza.

The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani met today with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, on the sidelines of his participation in the Cairo Summit 2023, held to discuss developments in the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.".

The statement added, “During the meeting, they discussed the current events in the Gaza Strip and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions as a result of the continued Israeli aggression in killing civilians and targeting their homes.” The statement indicated that “the Prime Minister renewed Iraq’s position in which he stressed the danger of the continuing escalation in Gaza, and that what the Palestinians did is a natural result of years of siege, persecution and aggression practiced by the Zionist occupation forces, which led to the Palestinian people losing confidence in international institutions that were standing by and watching the violation of international laws and resolutions, stressing the necessity of opening safe corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid and urgent relief to the besieged people of Gaza.”.

For his part, Sanchez thanked the Prime Minister for the efforts made by Iraq in this crisis, stressing the importance of continuing dialogue and communication among all in order to achieve peace, and expressing his country’s readiness to support Iraq’s efforts to calm the situation, especially the Iraqi initiative aimed at to a ceasefire and lift the siege on the Gaza Strip.
