MOP determines the rates of Iraqis' use of mobile phones and the Internet

    The Ministry of Planning determined the rates of Iraqis' use of mobile phones and the Internet.

    Ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the Central Bureau of Statistics conducted a survey on the use of information and communications technology for families and individuals for the year 2022,” indicating that “68 percent of Iraqis over the age of 5 use the phone.” "The percentage of phone use among males is 90 percent, compared to 81 percent of females."

    He added, "The results of the survey showed that the percentage of individuals who do not use a mobile phone amounted to only 14 percent," pointing out that "the percentage of using a mobile phone in Baghdad Governorate was the highest, reaching (97%), followed by the Al-Najaf Governorate with a percentage of ( 93.5%), then Basra Governorate with a rate of slightly less than (93%), Kirkuk Governorate ranked fourth with a rate of (92%), and Wasit Governorate came in fifth place with a rate of (72%).

    Al-Hindawi pointed out, “The results of the survey showed that the percentage of individuals aged (5) years and over who use a smart mobile phone reached (92%), compared to (10%) who use a regular phone.”

    Regarding the use of the Internet, according to the results of the survey, Al-Hindawi stated that the percentage of individuals who use the Internet who are (5) years and older reached (79%), distributed as follows: 
    (85%) for males and (72%) for females.”

    At the governorate level, Al-Hindawi confirmed that “the capital, Baghdad, ranked first in using the Internet with a rate of (96%), followed by Basra Governorate (92.5%), Kirkuk Governorate (85%), and the lowest percentage was for Al-Muthanna Governorate (62%),” pointing out that “ The results of the survey indicate an increase in the percentage of families who have an Internet connection at home to (87%). At the environmental level, it was found that the percentage in cities reached (92%) compared to (83%) in the countryside.”.
