Environment Minister Nizar Amedi affirmed the government’s determination to achieve its aspirations for tackling climate change.
“Minister Amedi met with Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber. COP28 President-Designate, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change, and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of the Iraqi Ambassador to UAE, Muzaffar Al-Jubouri, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations within the framework of international and regional cooperation in order to meet the challenges of climate change,” stated the Ministry of Environment in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA.
"The Minister of Environment reviewed during the meeting the preparations for Iraq's effective participation in the COP28 climate conference and the necessity of consolidating cooperation between Iraq and the international community, especially the fraternal relationship between the two brotherly countries," the statement added, stressing "the importance of redoubling international efforts to achieve the provisions of Paris Agreement and the sustainable development goals."
Amedi praised "The efforts of the UAE and its great role in working for climate locally and globally and its real contributions in the field of combating climate change."
For his part, Minister Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber stressed the need to expand cooperation between the two countries in environmental sectors, such as the renewable energy sector and climate change, and to support the principles of nature-based solutions and exchange cooperation and expertise in these fields, Expressing "his country's desire to strengthen the bonds of brotherly relations and open broader horizons for joint work at all levels to serve the interests of both countries."
