INSS announces the arrest of 24 accused of promoting the Baath Party

    Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced On Tuesday, the arrest of 24 people accused of promoting the Baath Party.

    A National Security statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated, “After receiving accurate intelligence information about the existence of promotional activities for the banned Baath Party in various areas of Iraq, the National Security Service detachments launched a large-scale campaign to follow up on the matter and investigate those involved."

    The statement explained, "The campaign began in Kirkuk Governorate, and through the intelligence effort and the cooperation of citizens in reporting them, the detachments reached 13 defendants who had affiliations and promotional activities for the dissolved Baath Party, which led to their overthrow one by one," pointing out that "the campaign also included the provinces (Anbar, Baghdad, Karbala, and Nineveh) after the detachments intensified their field efforts to identify them and arrest 11 defendants within a few hours after some of them appeared in video clips that included glorification of the former regime and others pasted banned promotional leaflets in some public places."

    It continued, "The arrests were carried out based on judicial orders in accordance with the provisions and articles of the dissolved Baath Party Ban Law No. 32 of 2016, where all the accused were referred to the judicial authorities to take legal measures against them."
