Severe penalties await those who breach safety conditions, says Government spokesperson

    The government spokesperson, Basem Al-Awadi, explained on Thursday, the possibility of including the victims of Al-Hamdaniya tragedy by the Martyrs Foundation Law, while announcing the immediate implementation of the Prime Minister’s directives regarding safety conditions throughout Iraq.
    Al-Awadi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency-INA that "Those covered by the Martyrs Foundation law are victims of terrorist operations, military operations or military errors, in addition to the government Diwani orders and the decisions voted by the parliament to consider a certain segment or group (martyrs) and they will be included in the Martyrs Foundation law”.
    “Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, has issued his directives and orders to the institutions concerned with the rights of the victims of Al-Hamdaniya fire incident, and the directives have been very clear to care for them and pay appropriate compensation and the costs of their treatment," he added.
     
    Al-Awadi quoted the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Health Affairs, Saleh Damad, as saying, “The number of victims of AL-Hamdaniya fire so far has reached approximately 94 people, while the number of injured has reached 101,” stressing that “half of the injured are in critical condition.”
     
    "All urgent and appropriate measures have been taken by all hospitals, and all treatments, medicines and medical supplies of all kinds have been provided, and what hospitals need to treat the injured by the capital Baghdad and other governorates," he continued.
     
    Regarding the Government's actions against violators of safety conditions, Al Awadi said that "The Prime Minister has issued two directives, the first: to double public safety requirements, and the second: to conduct periodic inspections from today, of all buildings, shops and schools, especially those lacking public safety requirements or built from caravans, ecobonds or sandwich panels."
     
    "The directives are clear, and they have been implemented directly in the governorates through tighter control procedures, and there will be severe accountability and punishment for violators," he said, stressing that "these issues are very vital issues to be addressed."
