Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani discussed with the Italian organization Terre des Inhumans launching a new project to rehabilitate and reintegrate juveniles in accordance with international human rights standards.
"Shawani received today in his office, a delegation from the Italian organization Terre des Hommes (TDH), which included both Esmond Locke and Habib Al-Murabit along with their accompanying delegation to discuss prospects for cooperation and joint coordination between the Ministry and the organization," stated the Ministry in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
During the meeting, the Minister discussed with the organization's delegation launching a new project in coordination and cooperation with the Iraqi Correctional and Juvenile Departments regarding the rehabilitation and reintegration of juveniles and convicts in accordance with international standards on human rights.
“The Ministry supports any cooperation that serves the correctional system and works to develop its programs within the prison departments, and the organization helped the Juvenile Correctional Department by providing psychological, social, and educational support to the juveniles in custody," said Shawani.
In turn, the members of the delegation praised the Ministry’s role in following up on the human rights file and its effective role in the humanitarian aspect of this important segment of events, stressing the organization’s continued support by providing cultural and educational programs and working to integrate them into society again.
