MOT announces the completion of the requirements of the Baghdad Skytrain project

    The Ministry of Transport announced today, Saturday, the completion of the requirements for the Baghdad Skytrain project. 

    A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that “Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi directed the completion of all related matters and procedures for the acquisition of lands and buildings that conflict with the course of the project, through the competent courts.”.

    He stressed, “The suspended train project is awaiting the release of financial allocations, to invite specialized foreign companies and negotiate with them, to refer the project to one of them, and to contract with them for implementation, construction, and equipment in accordance with applicable government controls and instructions.”.

    The statement warned, “Private lawsuits have been filed before the competent courts (in Kadhimiya and Adhamiya) for the purpose of expropriating lands and buildings that conflict with the project,” stressing, “The Ministry is awaiting the release of financial allocations for the project after its inclusion within the Ministry’s projects in the 2023 budget, for the purpose of directing the project.” By transferring and transforming infrastructure services that conflict with the route of the stations.”.

    He warned that "the project designs and requirements for their implementation have been fully completed," noting that "there is a close follow-up of the project by the Minister of Transport.".

    The statement continued, "The project constitutes an integrated transportation system in the capital, Baghdad, as it will provide important services to most areas with high population density by passing through the outskirts of Baghdad, reaching the vital centers within the capital."
