MOI: 5 people were convicted of killing the American citizen, including an Iranian defendant

    The Ministry of Interior confirmed, today, Thursday, that the Iraqi judiciary issued a verdict against 5 people who were convicted of killing an American citizen in Baghdad, including an Iranian suspect.

    A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said, "Immediately after the killing of the American citizen, Stephen Troell, in the capital, Baghdad, last year, an intelligence team from the Ministry of Interior began to follow up the course of the accident, with an intensive intelligence technical effort for several days, in separate regions and places, and through Interrupting the available information, the work team was able to diagnose the perpetrators and those associated with them, and presented the method to the judiciary, and judicial approvals were obtained to arrest them, as the arrest warrant was executed later, and during the investigation process with the perpetrators and after confronting them with irrefutable evidence, they confessed to their crime, and evidence was also revealed. Which came in accordance with their statements, and in light of that, the case was referred to the competent court.

    The statement added, "The Iraqi judiciary issued, today, Thursday, a life imprisonment sentence against them, and they are an Iranian suspect and 4 other Iraqi defendants, after they were convicted of killing the American citizen.".

    He pointed out, "The intelligence team and the effort accompanying it are searching and investigating 4 other suspects out of the group that was arrested and implicated in this crime, as they are now being pursued and followed up with the aim of arresting them to obtain their just punishment and the implementation of legal procedures against them.".

    The ministry affirmed that it is "the watchful eye to establish security and stability and is able to provide protection to citizens and all arrivals to the country of various nationalities and countries, and it will not allow aggression against them in all the country's governorates, and it will continue security work with all professionalism and craftsmanship."
