The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security
“Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, led a Ministerial Council for National Security meeting. The session focused on current security developments, key challenges, and strategies for addressing them”, stated the Spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Yehia Rasool in a statement, received by The Iraq News Agency-INA.
“Additionally, the session covered approving Iraq's accession to the international database for lost and stolen weapons, aiming to enhance control over these arms,” he added.
On a different note, the council addressed the entry of Arab and foreign hunters during the hunting season. Relevant measures were deliberated and decided upon accordingly.
“The Council received a comprehensive update about the recent visit of Iraq's delegation, led by Defense Minister Mr. Thabet Muhammad Al-Abbasi, to Washington upon the invitation of the US Secretary of Defense,” Rasool pointed out.
He also mentioned that “The Council was briefed on a review of the joint dialogue between the two countries, which covered bilateral security cooperation according to the Strategic Framework Agreement and the shape of the future relationship between Iraq and the Global Coalition Against Daesh. The Iraqi delegation stressed Iraq's sovereignty principles, the growing capabilities of all branches of the Armed Forces, and their role in safeguarding security, stability, and border integrity”.
“Furthermore, the delegation conveyed Iraq's perspective in the dialogue, asserting that foreign combat forces are unnecessary on Iraqi soil”, he noted. “Following the briefing, the Council approved the Iraqi delegation's agreement with the United States to form a joint high committee with the Global Coalition Against Daesh, aimed at implementing the joint dialogue's outcomes”.
In this context, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces instructed the Army's Chief of Staff to engage with the Global Coalition Against Daesh leadership in Iraq, to initiate the bilateral committee's operations.
The Council also commended the Iraqi delegation's endeavors, highlighting the Iraqi security capabilities and the safeguarding of Iraqi sovereignty in all aspects.
