Interior Ministry announces the implementation of a major security operation to combat drugs in Iraq

    The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs announced on Sunday, the implementation of a major security operation to combat drugs in Iraq.

    The Directorate said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Based on the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to give the drug affairs file the utmost importance, the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in the Ministry of Interior implemented it under the personal and direct supervision of the Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari and during 72 An hour from 3/8/2023 until 6/8/2023, a security operation considered the largest in Iraq in the fight against drugs, according to judicial decisions and in coordination and participation with the fight against drugs in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which resulted in the dismantling of the most prominent drug trafficking network, which is the main, supplier and exporter of pills in Iraq The narcotic Captagon, and its crimes extend from the region to the center, south, and west of the country, consists of (8) defendants, including its president."

    The statement added, "They were arrested, and their confessions were written about storing narcotic substances in places, most of which are difficult to find, underground, doors, and other hidden places after conducting a fundamental inspection, (450) kilograms of narcotic Captagon pills and (50) kilograms of opium were seized narcotic drugs,” pointing out that “they were arrested for the crime of drug trafficking, so that they receive their just punishment."
