Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi received Italian defence minister Elisabetta Trenta and her accompanying delegation Elisabetta congratulated the Prime Minister on forming the government and taking over his duties as prime minister, confirming Italy's stand with Iraqi government in face challenges and great responsibilities. Trenta pointed out that Italy’s interest in the war against Da'ash because it represents a threat to Iraq first, Europe and world. She expressed her country's concern about the continuation of terrorist financing networks and culture of extremism, while insisting on supporting Iraq especially in training the armed and security forces. This is part of Italy's commitment to security in Iraq and the whole world. Abdul-Mahdi stressed that democracy in Iraq is growing, developing and maturing, noting the peaceful transfer of power that the country has been denied for decades. Prime Minister said that the country has achieved great victories in its war against Al- Qaeda and then Da’ash but is still engaged in a fierce war against the remnants of cancer terrorism, calling the friendly countries to support Iraq in its war against terrorism and support its economy because it not only defence for the security of its citizens but for the security of the whole world. Abdul Mahdi praised the historic role played by the fatwa in mobilizing the people to support the armed forces, saying that the support of the armed forces of the popular mobilization, Peshmerga and other popular forces enabled our armed forces to obtain the opportunity to rebuild Iraqi forces under the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
