MOFA announces an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation regarding insulting the Holy Quran

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, today, Saturday, an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation regarding insulting the Holy Quran.

    The ministry stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it is "in response to the request submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and for two consecutive times, following what happened in the Kingdom of Sweden and followed in Denmark, from insulting the Holy Quran and contempt of sanctities and provoking feelings of about two billion Muslim around the world, a meeting will be held for an emergency meeting of the foreign ministers in the Islamic Cooperation Organization in the Islamic Cooperation Organization. Urging and discussing the most important collective procedures and positions of the member states in this regard.

     "The systematic path that the ministry adheres to during the scheduled meeting aims at actions that offend the Holy Quran and the sanctities of Muslims, and sets collective mechanisms to confront the phenomenon of Islamophobia, provided that this is in the context of national and international decisions.".

     pointed out that "provocative and heinous practices against Islamic sanctities are fueled by laws that permit this, under the pretext of freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate, and this revives hatred and extremism, threatens social peace and security, and brings human societies back to the memory of violence."
    The Ministry called on the international community to "be in front of its moral and civilized obligations in a responsible and equal manner by dealing, in accordance with what was stipulated in international resolutions; by criminalizing racism and anti-Semitism and its followers in the world, so religions and races should be respected together, and practices that disgrace their symbols and followers should be criminalized, in a way that does not make these decisions and international instruments references." discrimination on the basis of religion, belief and race.
