The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the mobilization of efforts to hold an Islamic summit conference to discuss the repercussions of insulting the Holy Quran.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein is intensifying his contacts with his counterparts in the Arab and Islamic groups with the aim of mobilizing efforts to hold the Islamic Summit Conference in its emergency meeting at the ministerial level to discuss the repercussions of insulting the Holy Quran and confronting the phenomenon of Islamophobia around the world."
He added, "The foreign minister made phone calls with his counterparts in Turkey, Iran and Jordan to discuss convening the emergency meeting at the ministerial level of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the concerned ministers supported Iraq's position in this call to achieve clear measures to confront insults to the Holy Quran."
He continued, "Hussein received a call from his Saudi counterpart, and they agreed on the importance of convening an emergency high-level meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the ministerial level to discuss the repercussions of insulting the Holy Qur'an, confronting the phenomenon of Islamophobia, and taking the necessary measures collectively in this regard."
