First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, and the Turkish Ambassador, Ali Reza Konay, agreed today, Thursday, to form a joint committee to address the water problem.

The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, received, at his residence today, Thursday, the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Ali Reza Konay," noting that "during the meeting, a number of important issues were discussed, including the Swedish attacks and provocations of the feelings of millions of Muslims.".

Al-Mandalawi called on "the Union of Parliaments of Islamic Countries to hold an urgent meeting to take a unified stance towards Sweden and any country that allows transgression of the Book of God Almighty," stressing "the importance of having a common position between Iraq, Turkey and all Islamic countries regarding these irresponsible steps of the Swedish government.".

The water file was discussed, and the severe damage it caused to several sectors, such as agriculture and the economy, where it was emphasized that Iraq should take its sufficient share of the water releases coming from Turkey, and it was agreed to form joint working committees to find out Iraq's actual water needs, and to deal with this file in a way that enhances the prospects for cooperation between the two countries and the two peoples and guarantees Iraq's full right to water.
