Al-Maliki: The ethnic diversity in Iraq represents a source of strength and promotes peaceful coexistence

    The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, confirmed on Wednesday, that the ethnic diversity in Iraq represents a source of strength and promotes peaceful coexistence.

    The media office of the head of the State of Law Coalition stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Maliki received in his office today the head of the Sabean-Mandaean sect, Sheikh Sattar Jabbar Helo, and at the outset of the meeting, the head of the Sabean-Mandaean sect congratulated al-Maliki and the Iraqi people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha."

    The statement  added, "The political reality in Iraq, and the efforts made by the political forces to support the government to meet the demands of the Iraqi people, were discussed and reviewed."

    The head of the State of Law Coalition stressed, according to the statement, that "the ethnic diversity in Iraq represents a source of strength and promotes peaceful coexistence among its sects and contributes to building stability," calling for "the Mandaeans to have a role in the process of building Iraq."

    For his part, the head of the Sabean-Mandaean sect, Sheikh Sattar Jabbar Helou, affirmed that "the Iraqi Sabians adhere to their identity and are keen to participate in building it with the rest of their brothers from other religions and sects."
