MOI and his Iranian counterpart agree to open joint border posts between Iraq and Iran

    The Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir al-Shammari, announced today, Saturday, the agreement with his Iranian counterpart, Ahmed Vahidi, to open joint border posts between Iraq and Iran.

    Al-Shammari said, in a press statement, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Today, we received, at the Zurbatiya border crossing, specifically at the border guard headquarters, the third region, the Iranian Minister of Interior and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the governors of Basra, Wasit, border crossings and other security agencies.".

    He added, "The purpose of the visit is to increase coordination and cooperation regarding the control of international borders, as well as to discuss preparations for receiving the visitors of the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (PBUH) through the land border crossings, which will start from the first of the month of Safar until the twentieth of it."
    He pointed out that "it was agreed to coordinate the exchange of information between the two sides, and to open joint headquarters at the borders for the purpose of controlling movement, as well as promoting visitors and controlling the movement of visitors during the visit period."
    He stressed that "a number of points were also agreed upon with the aim of facilitating the entry of visitors, as well as procedures for controlling international borders, with increased coordination and joint work between the two countries."
    Today, Saturday morning, the Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir al-Shammari, received his Iranian counterpart, Ahmed Vahidi, at the Zirbatiya border crossing in Wasit Governorate, for the purpose of holding a security meeting between the two countries.
    A statement of the Ministry of Interior, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "The Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir al-Shammari, received his Iranian counterpart, Ahmed Vahidi, at the Zurbatiya border crossing in Wasit Governorate, for the purpose of holding a security meeting between the two countries."
