The Council of Ministers condemned today, Tuesday, the crime of burning the Holy Quran in the Kingdom of Sweden, while directing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to follow up on the content of the letter of the Supreme authority Office addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the cabinet condemned the crime of burning the Holy Qur'an in the Kingdom of Sweden, as this heinous crime constitutes a blatant assault on the beliefs of Muslims and a violation of their sanctities."

He emphasized "the content of the letter of the Supreme Religious Office in Najaf addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as he instructs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the necessary measures to follow up the issue with the United Nations, with the aim of reaching international commitments that prevent such attacks from occurring in the future."
The Council of Ministers urged "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to communicate with the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and to confirm Iraq's request to host an emergency conference at the level of leaders or ministers."
