Al-Sahhaf: The Human Rights Council elects the representative of Iraq as a member of the advisory team

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the election of the Human Rights Council, the representative of Iraq to the United Nations Office in Geneva, as a member of the advisory team.

    The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Human Rights Council approved at the end of the (52nd) session the appointment of members of the Human Rights Council's advisory team, which consists of representatives of the five regional groups of the United Nations, including the permanent representative." To the Republic of Iraq at the United Nations Office at Geneva, Ambassador Abdul Karim Hashim Mustafa on behalf of the Asia and Pacific Group.

    He added that "the membership of the advisory team will extend from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024," pointing out that "the advisory team, which consists of five members, is responsible for examining the lists of candidates and interviewing mandate-holders from special procedures (special rapporteurs, independent experts, and members of working groups).

    Submitting the proposed names to the President of the Human Rights Council for approval by the Council at the end of each session.
