FM Hussein and Deputy PM of Cuba discuss strengthening bilateral relations

    INA - BAGHDAD 

    Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed on Saturday, with Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ines Maria Chapman, strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

    "Deputy PM, FM Hussein met Deputy PM of Cuba Chapman, on the sidelines of his participation in the water summit, whose meetings are held at the United Nations headquarters in New York," said the Ministry in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
     
    Hussein congratulated Cuba on its presidency this year of the Group of (77) and China, referring to" the historical and traditional bilateral relations that bring together Iraq and Cuba, as well as the desire of the Republic of Iraq to strengthen them in all aspects, especially economic, commercial, scientific, health and political. "This is to be via multiple diplomacy in international organizations," stressing "the importance of restoring bilateral relations between the two countries and reopening the Cuban embassy in Baghdad and the Iraqi embassy in Havana," taking into account the history of these relations and "building on it for the purpose of working on what can be done to strengthen these relations in the future and in order to achieve shared interests.”

    In turn, Chapman expressed her happiness at the meeting, stressing the desire of the government and people of Cuba to strengthen bilateral relations with Iraq due to the position it enjoys in the region as well as international and regional organizations, in addition to seeking to resume economic and trade relations between the two countries.  

    She noted "the importance of exchanging experiences and best practices in many sectors including agriculture, climate change treatments, water resources management, as well as the health care system," stressing, "the importance of achieving mutual visits between the two countries."

    Chapman invited Hussein to attend the Innovation, Science and Technology Summit, which will be held at the level of foreign ministers in September.

    The statement pointed out that "Hussein thanked her for the invitation to attend the summit and visit Cuba to conduct meetings that would strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and set the agenda for these meetings to include economic, commercial and environmental aspects," explaining that "the missions of Iraq and Cuba to the United Nations in New York will follow up Starting steps to restore relations, and then working to reopen the two embassies."
