National Security Adviser Qassim Al-Araji confirmed on Sunday, that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani is very interested in developing relations with Iran to broader horizons.
The media office of the National Security Adviser said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that " National Security Adviser, Qassim Al-Araji, received today Sunday ,the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC)in Iran, Ali Shamkhani, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq."
The statement added, "Al-Araji reviewed with Shamkhani the latest developments in the political and security situation in the region, in addition to discussing the importance of solving problems facing border security, as well as ways to strengthen relations between Baghdad and Tehran, in a way that serves the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples."
Al-Araji affirmed, "Iraq welcomes the return of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," noting that it is "an important development in the interest of the region."
He expressed his hope that "the region will witness more positive understandings that serve its security and stability," pointing out that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani is very interested in developing relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran to broader horizons, and considers it evidence of the sincere intentions of the two countries."
For his part, Shamkhani affirmed that "Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran were able to establish friendly relations and they are in continuous development," noting that "the assurances of the Iranian leadership are focused on developing relations with Iraq, at all levels."
