The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Al-Najm announced ,on Wednesday ,that the production capacity of the continuous casting plant is more than 600 thousand tons, while pointing to the signing of four contracts related to the production of sulfur, fertilizers and sodium carbonate.
Al-Najm said at a press conference held today and attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) " Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani inaugurated today the continuous casting plant at the general steel industry company, as this is the first phase of the project" , indicating that "the second phase will include the opening of the rolling mill within ten months, which we announced today”.
He added that" the capacity of the continuous casting plant production is more than 600 thousand tons, where it depends on scrap iron, and later it will depend on the sponge iron or iron veins that are produced, which are shipped to the general iron and steel company in Basra, to produce rebar" , offering congratulations to "all the workers working in the world and in Iraq in general, and to the employees of the Ministry of industry in particular”.
Al-Najm stated that" four contracts have been signed today, two of which concern Mashreq sulfur with a total production of 4 million tons per year, where production will be started within three years”, explaining that "one of these contracts concerns the sodium carbonate production plant with a capacity of 90 thousand tons at the general company for glass and refractories, and the last contract concerns a plant for the production of compound phosphate fertilizers with a capacity of 240 thousand tons in northern fertilizers”.
He stressed "the signing of the contract of flat glass and the contract of bottles " ,explaining that" we met today with representatives of one of the Chinese companies that produce a quarter of the production of stainless steel in the world, and the final touches were put to sign a contract with them to establish an industrial city in Basra " , pointing out that" sulfur material will be essential, which is used in the iron industry”.
"The other contracts that we announced at the Basra conference held in December last year, part of them are under procedure and the other was re-announced for not attracting tenders that meet the requirements from a technical and financial "he said.
