The legal guardian of the al-Abbas's (PBUH) holy shrine, Mr. Ahmed al-Safi, confirmed today, Saturday, that it was the holy city of Najaf that confronted ISIS, while he indicated that the current battle is to confront striking concepts and disturbing societal cohesion.

Al-Sayed Al-Safi said, in his speech, during the opening of the Al-Hayat Festival, which is held by Al-Qabas Foundation for Culture and Development, and was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We are the people who sacrifice, and thus history is always stolen from us, and this is what makes me call on everyone not to neglect preserving and recording facts, so that future generations will learn about the events that the country went through, and how the people of truth fought to defeat falsehood.

He added, "One of the facts that must be recorded is: Najaf was the one that stood up to ISIS, as the road was blocked except for the door of fatwa, so it was the key to victory, restoring Iraqi cities and defeating terrorist gangs, at a time when some were repeating that victory would take 30 years." He pointed out that "the battle we are waging now is of another kind, represented by the importance of confronting attempts to change convictions and attack concepts, and disturbing societal cohesion and the family structure that makes it up."
