The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed today, Friday, that storage rates in the Mosul Dam have reached very high levels, and while it indicated that Iraq has good water storage that will reflect positively on the summer agriculture plan, it confirmed that the rate of salinity in the Shatt al-Arab has decreased by a large percentage, while specifying 5 Measures to improve irrigation efficiency.

The Director General of the General Authority for Dams and Reservoirs in the Ministry, Ali Radi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The storage rates in the Mosul Dam have reached very high levels, which we did not reach in 2019 when there was an abundant year,” indicating that “the storage levels in Dokan and Darbandikhan dams reached the same levels as in 2019.”

He added, "Iraq currently has good water reserves, and this will reflect positively on the next summer season and the summer plan."
He continued, "The achieved storage must be well exploited by striving to improve irrigation efficiency through five options and procedures that include the use of modern technologies, lining irrigation canals, using closed pipes to transport water, creating dams to harvest water, and exploiting groundwater."

He stated, "Flexibility and positivity in the water file is important and was achieved thanks to the current government support and the insightful and clear vision of the water file, which Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani turned into a sovereign file."

Regarding the salinity of the Shatt al-Arab, Radi explained, “Stable water releases from the Islamic Republic of Iran have enhanced the water storage in the Darbandikhan Dam and the Diyala Dam as well, and reduced the salinity rates in the Shatt al-Arab by a very large percentage.”

He stated, "In some areas, salinity levels reached 15,000 parts per million, and then decreased to 2,000."
