The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers counted the number of flights carrying relief materials to Syria and Turkey, while confirming the participation of all governmental and non-governmental agencies, the supreme religious authority and holy shrines in providing humanitarian aid to the affected areas in the two countries .
The spokesman for the Municipality, Haider Majeed, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Iraq is the first to initiate humanitarian aid to Syria and Turkey, as there was an immediate directive from the Prime Minister to establish an air bridge between Baghdad and the two countries affected by the devastating earthquake."
Majeed added, "The number of planes loaded with various relief and medical materials has so far reached 27 sorties to Syria and 26 sorties to Turkey, distributed between the cities of Damascus, Latakia, Aleppo and Gaziantep, and transported nearly 300 tons of relief and medical materials, in addition to tons of food." Tents, blankets, mattresses and various household items.
He pointed out, "There are planes that transported relief materials to the Iraqi community in the city of Gaziantep, in addition to the visit of the government delegation to the cities of Aleppo, Latakia and Gaziantep, as well as the visit to the shelters in those cities, during which they were briefed on the services provided there."
He stressed, "The governmental effort from all ministries participated in the humanitarian campaigns presented to Turkey and Syria, and the extension of a land bridge through the Ministry of Commerce, which sent 650 tons of various foodstuffs, in addition to sending 850 tons of various foodstuffs from the Ministry of Defense, in addition to the contribution of the Ministry of Defense." Education and the Directorate of Education of Basra, who sent various relief materials provided by teachers and students.
He pointed out, "The Popular Mobilization Authority has contributed to the transportation of hundreds of trucks of various relief materials, as well as the participation of the engineering and service effort in the transfer of humanitarian aid, the establishment of shelters and medical centers for affected families and the provision of daily meals, in addition to the role of the Supreme Religious Authority, holy shrines, and religious and cultural institutions who they contributed greatly to sending relief aid to the affected areas in Turkey and Syria."
He stated, "There is a campaign launched by the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers through the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations, where the latter had a major role in aiding citizens, in addition to popular donations by citizens from all Iraqi governorates."
