UN support for Iraq's efforts to return the displaced, Guterres confirms from Nineveh

    Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, affirmed on Thursday,  the United Nations' support for Iraq's efforts to return the displaced.

    The media office of the National Security Adviser stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that National Security Adviser, Qassim Al-Araji, visited Nineveh Governorate, accompanied by Secretary-General António Guterres, and the delegation also included Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for, Jeanine-Plasschaert, and a high-ranking government delegation,it included the Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faeq Gabro, the Head of the National Security Agency, Hamid Al-Shatri, the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Muhammadawi, and the representative of the Prime Minister, Zaidan Khalaf."

      The statement added, "Al-Araji, accompanied by the delegation, visited the Al-Jada'a Center for Community Rehabilitation, to see the conditions of displaced and the level of psychological rehabilitation provided by the Iraqi government, in cooperation with international organizations."

    The statement continued, "The Secretary-General of the United Nations and his accompanying delegation held a meeting with the government delegation and representatives of international organizations working in the Al-Jada'a Center for Community Rehabilitation."

    Al-Araji stressed that "the visit of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to the Al-Jadaa Center came to see closely the conditions of the displaced," noting that the Secretary-General heard briefly about the great efforts made by the Iraqi government to return families who were in difficult circumstances and integrate them into society, "noting that" Iraq strives to embrace all its children, and that United Nations stands strong to help Iraq in this humanitarian aspect, which is the duty of the international community towards Iraq, after the Iraqis presented their best sons, in defense of the homeland and the sanctities, in response to the fatwa of the rational reference."

    It pointed out that "the process of reconstruction and the return and rehabilitation of the displaced needs an international position, and the assistance of international organizations, to finish this humanitarian task, noting that achieving security and stability is not only beneficial to Iraq, but to the whole world."

    In turn, Guterres indicated, according to the statement, that "his visit to Nineveh Governorate, specifically the Al-Jadaa Center for Community Rehabilitation, is of great importance, to see the conditions of the displaced, noting that most of these displaced are women and children."

    The Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed his full support for Iraq's efforts to return the displaced, calling on the rest of the countries to take their role and return their nationals from the Syrian al-Hol camp, as Iraq did, appreciating the distinguished efforts made by the Iraqi government, despite the difficulties and challenges it faces in this humanitarian file."
