Ministry of Electricity announced on Wednesday, the inclusion of agreements and memorandums of understanding signed with Siemens and General Electric - GE in the 2023 budget while setting a date for implementation.

"The agreements and memorandums of understanding signed with Siemens and General Electric come within the government's great care for the electricity file to develop strategic and real solutions that serve the electricity file," said the ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Moussa, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

Moussa added, "The agreements and memorandums of understanding were included in the draft budget for the year 2023, and the necessary financial allocations were made for it. Once the budget is approved, the agreements and memorandums of understanding will turn into contracts and work on the ground."

"The steps to implement the agreements will come successively, and each project has a time limit for completion, some of which will be within a year, some within two years, and others within 3 years. The memorandums of understanding included long-term maintenance for 5 years for obstetric units," highlighted Moussa.

He pointed out that "the projects will include the establishment of stations that operate on associated gas and include the installation of combined cycle units that do not need fuel, operating on the heat generated from the simple cycle units, and proceeding with the installation of thermal stations that operate on all types of fuel. Thus, the ministry and the government achieve pressure on operational expenditures and reduce dependence on the supplied gas."

"The projects include support for all renewable energy projects in terms of urging banks to finance such projects," he added, explaining that "the memorandums of understanding that are concluded are a strategic step for real solutions to the electricity file."
