Baghdad and Berlin discussing the applications of rejected Iraqis

    Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed, today, Friday, with the Minister of State in the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, Bernd Croeser, the treatment of the conditions of Iraqis whose asylum applications were rejected.

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with the Minister of State in the German Federal Ministry of the Interior Bernd Croeser, on the sidelines of the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani to Berlin, at the head of a high level delegation.".

    He added, "The two sides discussed measures to address the conditions of Iraqis whose asylum applications have been rejected at the bilateral level with Germany, as well as at the level of the rest of the European Union."

    The minister stressed, according to the statement, the need to support voluntary return and reintegration programs and provide job opportunities for voluntary returnees from refugees to Iraq, explaining the efforts of the Iraqi government in this regard at the internal level by creating appropriate conditions to encourage the voluntary return of Iraqi refugees who do not enjoy with a stable legal status in the countries in which they are present.”.

    He stressed that "the Iraqi government pays great attention to this file, and that the situation of Iraqi refugees comes at the forefront of its agenda, given the priority that the German authorities give to the file of immigration and asylum, especially after the Ukrainian refugee crisis."
