The supreme religious authority, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, stressed today, Tuesday, the need for Muslims and the international community to stand by the people of Afghanistan.
The office of Sayyid Ali al-Sistani said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “His Eminence, Ayatollah Al-Sayyid Al-Sistani (God bless him) received, before noon on Sunday, the delegation of the Council of Shiite clerics in Afghanistan,” noting that “the head of the delegation presented a report on the situation in Afghanistan and the current activities of the Council.
Al-Sistani expressed his deep regret over the pain and tribulations of the honorable Afghan people have been subjected to in recent decades," according to the statement, referring to the many grievances that the people of Afghanistan, especially its women, are facing to at this time.
Al-Sistani stressed that "all Muslims, as well as the international community, should not leave the oppressed Afghan people in these circumstances, and should not be stingy with any assistance in order to alleviate their pain," stressing "the need to preserve unity, national solidarity, internal cohesion, and commitment to peaceful coexistence with all sects and components of Afghanistan".
Al-Sistani called on the Council of Shiite Scholars in Afghanistan not to resort to violence in dealing with the current rulers of Afghanistan.
He pointed out to them "to spare no effort in order to obtain the rights of the great people of Afghanistan."
