The United Nations Representative in Iraq confirmed today, Tuesday,  the Iraqi government's commitment to providing better opportunities for youth, while recommending ensuring the participation of youth and women in politics and decision-making.

The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Claudio Cordone, said in a speech during the youth conference, which was attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The youth have proven once again that they are not only able to bring about change and build a better future for themselves and future generations, but they are also committed By doing so,” he said, noting that “the youth of the nation are the leaders of the future, and we owe it to them to give them the opportunity to express themselves and fully participate in the social, cultural and political life of their country.”
“The Iraqi government is committed to providing better opportunities for Iraqi youth," noting that "youth represent more than 60% of the Iraqi population, but their importance lies not only in their number, but also in what they can offer to the present and future of this nation." Cordone said.
He continued, "Young people in Iraq, as in other countries, face social obstacles and are often excluded from political discussions and decision-making platforms," stressing that "the thoughts and energies that young people can bring to solve social and political issues should not be underestimated."
Cordone tated that "youth are the source of innovation and the main contributors to the development of just, inclusive and stable societies," pointing out that "I look to the government, political parties and other state institutions to ensure the full participation of youth and women in politics and decision-making processes."

"The United Nations will remain committed to working with young people to achieve their aspirations in line with our commitments stipulated in the UN Secretary-General's Youth Strategy 2030," he stressed.
