The Minister of Interior, Abd al-Amir al-Shammari, on Saturday, recalled the heroism of the military units on the anniversary of victory over terrorism.

Al-Shammari said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "On the fifth anniversary of liberation, we remember the days of heroism and steadfastness, the moments of confrontation and challenge, and how the Iraqi men began sacrificed their hearts and souls to their homelands."

He added: "On the anniversary of liberation, we recall the battles of honor, sacrifice, and valor shown by the volunteer battalions that poured into the Iraqi army divisions, and how the security forces' epic was formed with the masses of volunteers. Then, honor, firmness, and heroism began to reveal themselves with successive victories for our valiant forces and continuous defeats against ISIS gangs, we recall the words of the wise religious authority and the fatwa of Imam al-Sistani, in which he called on the Iraqis to defend their country in the face of the fiercest barbaric attack targeting Iraq, its people, its civil experience, its sanctities and its national soil.”

Al-Shammari continued: "After five years of liberation and the fulfillment of the promise of the great victory, I offer a military salute to Imam al-Sistani, who revived the nation with his fatwa that urged the Iraqi youth to participate in the war against terrorism.”

I pay tribute to the martyrs of the security forces who sacrificed their souls to their country and showed heroism in its finest form as we were witnesses from our position in the battle of destiny and at the heart of the military challenge in the face of terrorism against their bravery, various officers and soldiers, he also added.

He explained, "I salute all those who contributed to this great victory, including civil society organizations, media figures, writers, intellectuals, volunteer training camps, and service bodies and processions that offered everything they possessed to sustain the momentum of the battle,”

Al-Shammari said: "All  the thanks and gratitude to the men of the Iraqi army and the knights of the Ministry of Interior, who were at the heart of the battle throughout the years of the fierce struggle with ISIS terrorism, and to the Federal Police, CTS, air force and army aviation.

He also mentioned: "Great greetings to every Iraqi, male and female, through the will of 40 million citizens, as they stand by their army, their mobilization forces , and the rest of their security forces, as they move them from the stage of frustration to the era of victories, and I do not miss the important role that the Baghdad Operations Command and the Joint Operations Command played in a great qualitative effort in protecting Baghdad, organizing the ranks of volunteers, purchasing weapons, preparing security plans, and most importantly, they were at the heart of the battle, leading the crowds, just as they present martyrs after martyrs, and chart the paths of pride, dignity, and a new dawn for the knights of the other Iraqi forces.
