Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani returned on Wednesday, to Baghdad, after concluding his official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Al-Sudani arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday at an official reception ceremony held by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, according to a statement by the media office of the Prime Minister received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
The Prime Minister held an extended session of talks, for the Iranian side was chaired by the Iranian President, during which a number of files were discussed, foremost of which was the file on security coordination, trade exchange, and cooperation in the field of energy and investments, tourism and mutual religious visits, as well as facing the challenges of climate change.
Both sides also held a bilateral meeting, in which they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance mutual cooperation in various fields and areas, in addition to discussing a number of files of common interest.
PM Al-Sudani met, on the first couple days of the official visit to Iran, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayyid Ali Khamenei, and during the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his thanks to the Islamic Republic for its support for Iraq in the war against terrorism, stressing the need to keep on the joint efforts to counter terrorism, extremism, and drugs.
During his visit, he met the first vice president of Iran, Muhammad Mokhber, and the head of the Iranian Islamic Shura Council, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf.
The statement included that "the two meetings witnessed discussing ways to develop bilateral cooperation, emphasizing Iraq's pivotal role in the region to bring points of view closer, indicating the importance of the relationship between the two legislative authorities in Iraq and Iran, as to strengthening cooperation in a comprehensive manner."
On the second day of the official visit to Iran, Al-Sudani met Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian, and they discussed ways to enhance economic and trade relations, within the framework of constructive cooperation and partnership between the two neighboring countries.
