Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani announced on Saturday, the start of work on Al-Shinafiyah refinery expansion project, which will provide 3,000 job opportunities.
The media office of the Prime Minister stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Al-Sudani announced the start of work on Al-Shinafiyah refinery expansion project in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, in the first stations of his inspection visit to the governorate.
During his visit to Diwaniyah Governorate, Al-Sudani affirmed the government's determination to develop the oil sector and complete projects that meet the citizens' need for fuel.
Al-Sudani stated that: "Designs have been put in place for the expansion of Shinafiyah refinery, which will increase the production capacity of the refinery from 20,000 to 90,000 barrels per day, in addition to a refining unit with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day."
He stressed that he directed that production be compatible with environmental requirements.
The Prime Minister stated: "This increase will contribute to reducing the import of gasoline and gas oil, and the provision of surplus quantities of liquid gas and fuel oil products, which have a large economic return. The project will also provide up to three thousand job opportunities, to employ local manpower."
The commencement ceremony of work on expanding the project was attended by the Governor of Diwaniyah and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refineries Affairs
