The Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, and the Indian Ambassador in Baghdad, Prashant Bisai, discussed on Wednesday, joint investment in the refining industry and refineries sector.
"Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail received the Indian ambassador in Baghdad, Prashant Besai, during the meeting, issues of common interest and the importance of strengthening economic relations between the two countries were discussed," The ministry stated in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The statement added, "The meeting also discussed joint investment in the refining industry and refineries sector in Iraq and India to secure the need for consumption, especially with the presence of several projects that have been envisaged during the past years."
The minister stressed, according to the statement, "the necessity of strengthening joint cooperation between Iraq, which is the largest exporter of oil to India, which is one of the largest importers in the world," pointing to "the depth of the historical relations linking the two countries in various fields and their keenness to develop them in way that serves the common interests."
For his part, the Indian ambassador expressed "the desire of his country's government to expand the horizons of joint cooperation with Iraq in various fields."
