Beijing warns Washington of consequences for a congressional delegation's visit to Taiwan

The Chinese envoy on the Korean Peninsula affairs, Liu Xiaoming, warned of the consequences of the congressional delegation's visit to the island of Taiwan on Sunday, headed by Senator Ed Markey, considering the visit as "playing with fire."

"This is a very dangerous move that is like playing with fire, and whoever plays with fire will die from it," Liu said in a tweet.

"We urge concerned countries to adhere to the one-China policy, properly deal with the Taiwan issue, and stop interfering in China's internal affairs," he added.

Media previously reported that the visit of five US politicians to Taipei on August 14 and 15 is part of a larger visit to the Indo-Pacific region.
