Air Navigation: Iraq will be affected by the aircraft transiting during the World Cup in Qatar

    The General Company for Air Navigation Services confirmed today, Thursday, that Iraq will be affected by the increase in the number of transiting aircraft during the Qatar World Cup 2022. 

    The company's general manager, Nizar Ibrahim Al-Ziyadi, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the General Company for Air Navigation Services, Yesterday, Wednesday, I discussed the preparations for the 2022 World Cup with IATA via the Microsoft electronic platform. 
    He added, "The company was invited by IATA to hold a meeting in the presence of ICAO, Eurocontrol and a number of airlines to discuss the changes made by countries and preparations for the 2022 World Cup, given that Iraq is one of the most important countries that will be affected by the increase in the number of aircraft transiting over Iraqi airspace ".

    The statement indicated that "from the Iraqi side, the meeting was attended by a number of specialists from the directors of the company's divisions and people, and the attendees reviewed the preparations to receive the expected increase of aircraft during the 2022 World Cup period.

    During the meeting, the possibility of opening additional air corridors with a country was raised." Kuwait with the opening of an additional entry point with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in addition to modifying the air corridors in the northern region to provide shortcuts for airlines transiting over Iraqi airspace, and the most important obstacles facing air traffic in the northern region were discussed to find appropriate solutions to secure and organize air traffic management smoothly.
