National Security Adviser Qassem Al-Araji announced his apology for accepting his candidacy for the position of prime minister.
Al-Araji said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that: "For nine months, the political process in the country has witnessed an impasse that harmed the interests of the people and the homeland," pointing out , "since I believe that the homeland deserves sacrifice, I thank the honorable committee that nominated me for premiership."
He continued, "Here, I announce my apologies for accepting the nomination, in advance of my highest thanks and appreciation to all the Iraqi people, representatives and political blocs that announced their support for us, and we hope that our brothers in the Coordination Framework will make their choices for the benefit of the people and the country."
