Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday praised a decision by the European Commission to recommend EU ‘candidate status’ for Ukraine, calling it “the first step on the EU membership path”. Kyiv’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also hailed the decision and called for Ukraine to be granted formal candidacy status at a bloc summit that starts Tuesday.
