The Italian authorities issued permission for two humanitarian ships to dock in the port of Pozzallo, south of Sicily, where more than 440 rescued people are expected to land in the Mediterranean.
The relief ship Marie June, affiliated with the Italian NGO Mediterranea, had informed the Ministry of the Interior yesterday, Wednesday morning, that it "will sail to the first available port" without permission if its requests to provide a safe port are not answered within 10 hours.
The ship was carrying 92 people among them. About 30 unaccompanied minors were rescued during two operations carried out on June 5 and 6 in international waters near Libya and
Malta.The Italian authorities have issued permission to dock in the southern Sicilian port of Pozzallo, where the rescued people are expected to disembark Thursday.
