MOFA: Iraqi efforts to hold regional dialogue sessions on climate change

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed efforts to establish a collective regional dialogue on dust storms and climate changes, while indicating that in-depth discussions were held with the Iranian side regarding dust spots.

    The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the issue of climate change reflects risks related to water, desertification and dust storms, and the consequences that this has on population migration and security within countries."

    Al-Sahhaf added, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is, accordingly, seeking to establish a regional dialogue that calls for the integration of all parties in the region to reduce the risks and consequences of dust storms and as a result of severe climatic changes, high temperatures, high rates of desertification and the rise of the water crisis to the critical angles of a group of The countries of the region, which necessitated that Iraq present this perception.”.

    He pointed out that "a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran visited Iraq, and in-depth discussions were held with Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein in this regard," noting that "there are mechanisms and proposed patterns for cooperation in preparing digital maps to determine the areas of dust hotspots at the level of Iraq.".

    Also he indicated, "There are indications about a number of dust spots from outside Iraq, and therefore it is necessary to cooperate with the countries of the region to limit the consequences of these storms," noting that "the Minister of Foreign Affairs presented a set of challenges facing Iraq at the level of water security and the environment and what these phenomena face." dangers to individuals and communities at the level of Iraq and the region."
