Mines Directorate identifies the most dangerous areas due to the remnants of war

    The Department of Mine Affairs in the Ministry of Environment identified the types of pollution and their locations in Iraq, while indicating the areas most dangerous of war remnants.

     

    The director of planning and follow-up in the department, Ahmed Al-Aboudi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the pollution is divided into 5 sections (mine fields, cluster munitions, remnants of war, the land of confrontations, and explosive devices), noting that" the mine fields extend from the line of  border is from Diyala province to Wasit, Maysan and Basra with the Islamic Republic of Iran and comes as a result of the Iran-Iraq war.

     

    Al-Aboudi added, "There is also a minefield extending from Al-Muthanna Governorate towards Saudi Arabia as a result of the Kuwait war and after 2003, and the explosive devices are spread in the liberated areas (Anbar, Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and Diyala)," noting that "cluster munitions It spreads in the governorates of Basra, Dhi Qar, and Muthanna, and its danger is in Basra governorate near the Zubair region.”

     

    He pointed out that "the most dangerous area with the war remnants of Daesh terrorist gangs is Mosul, specifically the old city for Daesh's location concentration in it.

     

    He stressed, "Large areas have been cleared, in addition to the presence of organizations working to clear the remainder, and the discoveries are still present, as there are still danger areas despite the removed of many of it by the national effort."
