The United Nations announced today, Tuesday, that more than 11 million people have fled their homes in Ukraine since the start of the war on February 24.
In its first full assessment in three weeks, the United Nations International Organization for Migration said that "more than 7.1 million people were displaced within Ukraine as of April 1," according to the Associated Press.
"More than 4 million others have sought refuge outside Ukraine," as reported by the United Nations refugee agency.
New refugee tally and displaced persons represents an increase over the previous toll of the International Organization for Migration in mid-March, which amounted to more than 9.7 million internally displaced persons in Ukraine or abroad.
The International Organization for Migration said that more than 2.9 million others were seriously considering "leaving their usual place of residence because of the war".
The population of Ukraine before the war was 44 million.
