The World Fencing Championships, hosted,by the UAE, will start today, Monday with the participation of 120 countries, including Iraq.
The head of the Iraqi Central Fencing Federation, Ziad Hassan, said in a statement to Al-Sabah newspaper, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The federation was keen on the presence of our players in this global forum, in order to gain experience and contact with the participating countries, especially since the nomination of two of the players who are Zakaria Yahya and Ali Sajjad Hassan.
Hassan added that "The local fencing federation has a good and distinguished relationship with all Arab and Asian federations as a result of continuous communication in periodic meetings and international championships."
Our team had won second place in the Arab Championship hosted by the city of Sulaymaniyah last December, after winning two gold medals, one for men and the same for women in team competitions, while Ziad Hassan won the position of president of the West Asian Federation for the game, during the electoral conference of the Western Union Continent held on the sidelines of the Arab Championship.
