The history of the matches favors the lions of Mesopotamia against Emirates

The Lions of Mesopotamia team aspires to recreate the scenario of the1986 World Cup in Mexico, which achieved the dream of qualifying by winning against UAE and Syria, as the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will host the match of Iraqi national team and its counterpart the United Arab Emirates team, Within the ninth round of the first group of Asian qualifiers for the World Cup in Qatar, which was to be held at Al-Madina Stadium in Baghdad before FIFA  The and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) decided  jointly to transfer it to a neutral venue.
 
The history of direct confrontations between the Emirates and Iraq dates back to 26 matches in all competitions (official and friendly) before their expected meeting. Mesopotamia Lions won 10 matches, while the UAE won 8 matches, and the tie between them dominated in 8 matches.
 
The first match between the two teams dates back to 1973 when they met in the 1973 Palestine Cup, and the match ended with the victory of iraq 3-1, as and the Tunisian team was crowned in this tournament.
The first meeting between the two teams was in the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup in 1985, when they met in the second round of the qualifiers, and the Iraqi team won the first leg 3-2, and in the second leg, the UAE team won 2-1.
