French Ambassador to Iraq, Eric Chevalier announced today, Thursday, that Iraq had submitted a request to join the Francophone Organization.
Chevalier told the Iraqi News Agency INA that “Iraq has applied to join the Francophonie Organization” noting that “the French language is spoken by most countries of the world and is widespread”
Chevalier added “ many Iraqis speak French and we welcome anyone who wants to join the organization” explaining that joining the Organization of Francophone states require the members countries to hold a voting to take the decision”
He added, " one of the conditions for joining, that there should be a significant number of citizens who speak the French language, in addition to teaching it in universities and institutes, as well as being part of the cultural exchange between universities in Iraq and France," noting that "the meeting of the Organization of Francophone States will be held in Next November, affirming that there is support for Iraq to join the organization."
The Organization of Francophone States (International Organization of Francophones) is an international organization of French-speaking States and Governments (as an official language or as a common language) and conducts a series of French-language promotion activities through an international organization of 55 States and Governments as well as French-speaking communities as an official non-mother tongue.
