The Head of West Qurna-2(WQ-2) Oil Field, Hatem Abdul-Imam Khudhair, confirmed on Sunday that the field's shut down is temporary due to increase oil production capacity to an average of 450 thousand barrels per day.
Khudhair said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the shutdown is temporary only for21 days, in order to implement the final development plan for WQ-2 field that is prepared by the Ministry of Oil and Basra Oil Company.
"The shutdown aims to link modern projects to the field, after that crude oil production operations will be resumed at higher rates to achieve 450 thousand barrels per day, as the current production in 2022 is 4000 barrels, affirming that number of projects to increase the production has been established, including drilling wells", he also added.
He pointed out that "The plan included founding a project for the associated water isolation system, and it reached advanced completion rates," noting that "in order to increase production capacity, it is necessary to link these projects directly with the Central Processing Facility( CPF)."
"An agreement with Basra Oil Company has been reached and we informed the Ministry of in order to put a Reduction Plan for stopping the isolation plant in order to link these modern projects to the CPF," Khudhair affirmed.
