Iraq coordinates with Poland to provide support to members of the community, leaving Ukraine

    The Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, confirmed today, Saturday, that Iraq is currently coordinating with Poland to provide support to members of the community leaving Ukraine.

    Al-Sahaf said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Poland is coordinating with the Polish authorities and border guards to provide support to members of the community who are able to get out of Ukraine.".

    Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it had not received a request from the Iraqi community in Ukraine to leave.

    Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with great interest the developments of events in Ukraine and their repercussions on the security and safety of the honorable Iraqi community," noting that "the ministry issued a statement on 2/2022/ 12, in which the ministry urged the Iraqi community to leave the Ukrainian lands as a result of the developments in the scene there, for the sake of their security and safety.

    He added that "the Minister of Foreign Affairs made a phone call to the Iraqi Chargé d'Affairs on 2/24/2022 and followed up during the call the situation of the Iraqi community and the cadres working in the embassy and called for possible efforts in light of the current situation to ensure the security and safety of Iraqis, noting that "and at the direction of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a decision was taken. A set of steps to secure the Iraqi embassy building in Kiev and in coordination with the authorities there."
