Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) confirmed, today, Friday, that it had not received any request from the Iraqi community in Ukraine to leave.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with great interest the developments of events in Ukraine and their repercussions on the security and safety of the Iraqi community,” noting that “the Ministry issued a statement on February 12, 2022 in which it urged the Iraqi community to leave the Ukrainian lands as a result of the developments of the scene there ", said MOFA spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Minister Fouad Hussein held a phone call on feb24th with the Iraqi Chargé d'affaires in Kiev, Hussein Abbass, who provided him with the latest updates on the situation there, affirming that under the direction of the Minister to the Iraqi Chargé d'Affairs, a number of steps were taken to secure the Iraqi embassy building in Kiev and in coordination with the authorities there, Al-Sahaf added.
Al-Sahaf also pointed out that "The Iraqi embassy in Kiev continues its work under exceptional circumstances and has not received a request from the Iraqi community in Ukraine to leave."
He elaborated that "The number of the Iraqi community in Ukraine is (5537), including (450) students, distributed among 37 universities.
