Iraqi-Turkish negotiations over water issue during FAO Conf.

    Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, confirmed on Monday, that Iraq will discuss with the Turkish and Iranian sides the water file and its extensions during FAO conference held in Baghdad, while indicating that the outcomes of the conference will be important and excellent.
     
    "The first scientific demonstration in Iraq after more than 50 years is currently being held in the 36th session of the Near East and North Africa Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization, and this is a victory for Iraq," said Al-Khafaji in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
     
    He added, "There is more than 16 attended ministers and 17 ministers virtually from other countries, as we discussed many issues related to food security, desertification and water problems, as well as providing the appropriate environment for investment,"
     
    The conference will be attended by humanitarian organizations related to the agricultural sector, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the International and the Agricultural Development Organization, in addition to the relevant ministers of Turkey, Iran and neighboring countries, according to Al-Khafaji, noting “This strengthens the agricultural sector in Iraq and its outputs, as we expect them to be excellent,"
     
    "We have a meeting with the Turkish Minister of Agriculture to discuss trade exchange, economic issues and water problems among our priorities in addition to the results of the conference. We will invest in the presence of the Iranian and Turkish delegations in order to discuss the issue of water and its extensions, which is an opportunity during such conferences,” he included.
